The Importance of Art in Education

As public schools compete for fewer state and federal dollars, some of the first classes to be cut are art, music, and physical education classes. While bureaucrats might see these types of classes as 'nonessential,' many parents recognize the value of exploring creativity. The brain benefits from the skills learned in art and music classes; both the body AND the brain benefit from physical education. Parents who become actively involved in school board discussions and elections, and who proactively promote educational funding in their district can help to influence the direction of the public school curriculum.
